The Story of Boulder Troop 72

Boulder Scout Troop 72 has been an active part of the Boulder, Colorado community since 1929. With over 90 years of tradition, we are proud to offer a Scouting experience that combines outdoor adventure, leadership development, and a strong commitment to service. Our troop provides an environment where young people can challenge themselves, gain confidence, and grow into capable, responsible leaders.
What truly sets Troop 72 apart is our focus on high adventure. Every campout we plan—whether it’s a quick weekend getaway or an extended expedition—includes a high-adventure element. From mountain summits and backcountry skiing to rock climbing, backpacking, and cold-weather survival, our Scouts are constantly pushing their limits in the rugged and beautiful wilderness surrounding Boulder and beyond. We believe that real growth happens when Scouts step outside their comfort zones, and we design our program to give them those opportunities regularly.
Our troop is led by Scoutmaster Charles McDonald, whose passion for the outdoors and dedication to youth development help shape every aspect of our program. Under his leadership, Troop 72 remains true to the values of the Scout Oath and Law while fostering a culture of exploration, teamwork, and resilience.
In addition to outdoor adventure, Troop 72 is deeply committed to community service. Our Scouts regularly participate in service projects that benefit local organizations, the environment, and individuals in need. These projects not only serve the community but also help Scouts earn merit badges, fulfill rank requirements, and develop a strong sense of civic responsibility.
