Webmaster Update
On June 22nd, after loading up the troop trailer and making sure all our gear was packed, Troop 72 headed out to Camp Tahosa—a classic Scouts BSA summer camp located just 45 minutes from Boulder. Nestled in the mountains, Tahosa is a place where scouts challenge themselves, learn new skills, and have a ton of outdoor fun.
Once we arrived, we split into two groups: some scouts stayed at Eagle Point Base Camp, where the focus is on earning merit badges, and others joined the Tahosa Trek, a two-day backpacking trip deep into the wilderness. After setting up our tents, the entire camp came together for a welcome flag ceremony and a hearty dinner—kicking off what would be a memorable week.
The next day, scouts received their food rations and began cooking meals right at their campsites. Then it was time to dive into merit badge classes, covering skills like first aid, wilderness survival, cooking, and more. The classes ran most of the day with breaks in between to relax, explore, and enjoy the outdoors. Meanwhile, the Trek group, made up of four scouts and three adult leaders, spent the day preparing for their journey into the backcountry.
By Tuesday, everyone was into the rhythm of camp life. And for some scouts, there was an unexpected bonus: they spotted three moose near camp—an unforgettable wildlife encounter!
On Wednesday, the Trek group set out, each carrying a 20-pound pack loaded with gear, food, and essentials. They hiked about four miles through rugged terrain to reach their first campsite. The next day was even more challenging—four more miles through ten feet of snow! The snow slowed them down, turning the hike into a seven-hour trek, but they powered through. The final day of hiking was much smoother and faster, and to top it off, they saw another moose along the way!
Throughout the week, both the Base Camp and Trek scouts had meaningful experiences—learning new skills, bonding with friends, and pushing themselves outside their comfort zones. Camp Tahosa is a highlight of the scouting year and a reminder of why we do Scouts: adventure, growth, and memories that last a lifetime.
