Harvest of Hope Service Project

November 20, 2019

Webmaster Update

Harvest of Hope is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families who are struggling with food insecurity. They collect donated food items and distribute them to those in need throughout the community. Our scout troop had the opportunity to support their mission through a service project that combined organization, teamwork, and outreach.

To begin, our troop handed out Harvest of Hope bags to parishioners during weekend church masses. Each bag included a list of suggested non-perishable food items that could be donated, such as canned goods, pasta, rice, peanut butter, and cereal. The goal was to encourage families to fill the bags during the week and bring them back to church the following weekend.

Once the filled bags were returned, our troop collected them and transported them to a designated area for sorting. We worked together to organize the donated food by category, checking expiration dates and making sure everything was properly boxed and ready for delivery. This sorting process helps Harvest of Hope efficiently manage their food supplies and get them into the hands of people who need them most.

The project not only supported a great cause but also gave us a chance to practice leadership, responsibility, and cooperation. It was meaningful to see how a simple effort—like distributing bags and collecting food—could make such a big impact in our community. Knowing that our work would help feed families in need made the experience even more rewarding.
